I think this is a very nice story. It teaches us that we can move something if we believe in it and that sometimes we can manage it alone.

  2. Comment by Silvia Santorum:

“The man who planted trees” in its simplicity is an incredibly beautiful story, full of possible interpretations.
The first thing that struck me was seeing how easily we can modify the nature that surrounds us. In this case Elzéard Bouffier did it for a good cause, but in the world there are not just wonderful people like him; there are people who pollute the environment (and consequently modify it) just because of their material richness. We have to take care of the place we inhabit!
Talking about material richness, a very actual topic, I found in the story a very anti-materialistic moral: Elzéard Bouffier found his happiness in planting trees, in pursuing an aim, in living in a simple way, in enjoying all the little things that happened in his life. And that’s probably the most beautiful and genuine way of finding happiness. We don’t need a lot of money, a big house or a fast car to be happy; we can find happiness in very common things too. Alas, nowadays it is very difficult to find people who share this mentality; we’re getting more and more material beings.
Last but not least, the idea of experimentation: only through researching and experimenting things we can understand what works well and what not, exactly as the man who planted trees did with his seeds. This means that we mustn’t be afraid of trying new things, because it is just by trying new thing that we can improve.
I really appreciated reading this story, also because I didn’t know it before.

  3. For me the story is very easy to understand and very nice, because this man could became an example for all the people in the world. He started a project to plant trees without thinking of himself, he made something for all the inhabitants of the world. I think if all the people but also only a few of them did something like that, the world would became better.

  4. I really like this story. Elzèard Bouffier had an aim, which he was able to achieve. In my opinion it is very important to have an aim in your life, so you can enjoy it more and you can work for it. After the death of the most important people in his life he had a new task, which he succeeded in carrying out.

  10. Your points are: passion and peace. They can seem opposed on the wide range of feelings but as a matter of fact Elzeard Bouffier embodies both. Thank you for your comment, Lisa.
